Sylvia communis Other Names
World: Palearctic bird which ranges from Britain and Scandinavia (as far N as the Arctic Circle) through central Russis to sw Siberia , northern Mongolia and extreme western China. It's southern extreme is North Africa (Morocco to Tunisia). It occurs across most of the northern Mediterranean region being notably absent from Corsica extending eastwards to Turkey, Israel, n Iran, ne Afghanistan, n Pakistan and n India. It winters in the tropics reaching as far S as South Africa. Kenya: Scrub and undergrowth in bushed or wooded regions typically in semi-arid areas between 800-1200m. It is only rarely encountered above 1600m. This is a common passage migrant and winter visitor from November through to the end of April. It occurs in areas of leafy scrub, scattered trees and bushes. It is predominantly solitary although it may be found in loose groups occasionally alongside Barred Warblers. It is an active bird which forages among the foliage of bushes and trees. |
