World: Africa: Between 7°N and 17°N with Ethiopia, Uganda, western Kenyan and NW Tanzania at the eastern edge of its range.

Kenya: West of the Rift Valley mostly N of the Equator.

This is a very small weaver found in dry acacia and woodland. Unlike many other "Ploceus" weavers it tends to be solitary although it does sometimes occur in small groups. Like the bird itself, the nest is very small. In the picture above the male has completed the main chamber and is starting to construct the entrance tube. This photograph was taken at Lake Baringo in August 2001, we have found this to be one of the best places to see the Little Weaver.
