World: Africa - occurs in a band across the northern tropics from Senegambia to Ethiopia then S through Kenya and into Tanzania. Kenya: Bush and open savanna mostly W of 39°E in semi-arid regions. This is a ground feeding species which is generally found in small groups. It breeds either in small colonies or singly. The sexes are alike and the bird is very distinctive with its black and white speckled forehead. Indeed there are no similar species with which it can be confused. |
