Golden Palm Weaver |

Ploceus bojeri Other Pics: Female Golden Palm Weaver , Immature Male Golden Palm Weaver Other Names
World: Africa - endemic to extreme S Somalia, SE Ethiopia, Kenya and possibly NE Tanzania. Kenya: Common along the coastal trip. Range extends inland along the Tana River to Shaba and the Uaso Nyiro River from Samburu to the Lorian swamp. Also occurs on the Athi River. This is a gregarious, common and very noisy species which nests in colonies, sometimes (e.g. at Hunter's Lodge) this can be alongside African Golden Weavers. Away from the coast its preferred habitat is riverine woodland in dry country areas. In terms of identification it is difficult to confuse in the field with any other weaver, although the sub-adult plumage is very similar to that of the Taveta Golden Weaver. However the 2 species do not overlap in range. The immature male looks very similar to the female but the latter is a uniform yellow below while the immature male is much paler below and may show some streaking. However both have bi-colour bills. |
