World: Africa; from Chad East to southern Somalia and from Gabon East to Kenya and from Kenya South to north-eastern South Africa

Kenya: Common through most of the south-western quarter of Kenya and along the coast and inland along the Tana River. Avoids arid country and many highland areas.

The most common of Kenya's Robin-Chats, the White-browed is very similar in appearance to Rüppell's Robin-Chat although it generally avoids the highland areas more favoured by Rüppell's. The simplest distinguishing feature are the central tail feathers; black in Rüppell's, light brown in the White-browed. The White-browed is also generally lighter in colour on the back.
