World: Covers most of East Africa and in the south of the continent the range extends from southern Angola and Zambia south through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and much of South Africa.

Kenya: Found throughout most of the country mainly between 400-1400m, less common along the coast.

Conspicuous and noisy bird of drier regions, found in wooded and open wooded country. If you're visiting Samburu, Lake Baringo or Tsavo you're unlikely to miss it. It's social and noisy and is usually seen (and heard) in flocks of 20 or more birds.
