World: Afrotropical - widespread between 15°N and 10°S from Senegal in the West to Kenya in the East.

Kenya: West of the rift valley between 2°N and 1°S. This distribution marks the westerly most point in its distribution.

This is an uncommon, solitary and unobtrusive bird which heads straight to cover when disturbed. It is commonly found around woodland, forest edge and close to cultivation below 2000m. It is similar to the more common Olive Thrush but the African Thrush is paler and its bill is a yellowish colour.
