World: Africa: Very restricted distribution in N Kenya, S Ethiopia border region with a small localised population in S Somalia.

Kenya: A bird of arid, rocky country N of the equator and E of the Rift Valley (except in N Turkana). Particularly numerous in the Wajir region.

A distinctive and unmistakable big-billed Sparrow-Weaver of semi-desert and arid regions of Kenya. Since most tours don't go into the far northern provinces you are most likely to see this bird in Samburu. It can be found on the rocky ground in the north of the Game Reserve frequently in mixed groups with Speckle-fronted Weavers.
