World: Africa occurs widely S of 15°N, also found across Southern Asia from S Russia through the southern SSR, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, China and Taiwan.

Kenya: Uncommon species mainly associated with wooded and forest edge habitats. Occurs mainly in higher rainfall areas in the more arid north and eastern regions it is occurs mostly near water.

Also known as the Little Banded Goshawk this is a small, lightly built Accipiter. The cere and tarsi are yellow and the eyes are red in the male (pictured above) and orange in the female. This particular bird was spotted drinking from a puddle in the chef's vegetable garden in the grounds of Lake Baringo Club.
