World: East Africa in north-eastern Uganda, south-eastern Ethiopia, Kenya and northern Tanzania

Kenya: Found in the central and western regions of country up to 3000m. Mostly absent from the north and east of the country

Formerly classed as a separate species, Reichenow's Weaver; the name is still sometimes used in Kenya. This is a common weaver of cultivation, open woods, forest margins and towns throughout the highlands of Kenya. The male, pictured above, is distinctively marked with black face patches and a yellow crown. The female is equally clearly marked (and you may be fooled into thinking it is another ploceus male). She has the same striking markings as the male but has a black (instead of yellow) head
