World: Africa south of 13° North

Kenya: Local in bushed and wooded country below 1800m, generally avoiding very wet or very dry country and therefore uncommon in the North and East of Kenya

A very distinctive weaver, usually seen alone or in pairs. The birds pictured above are Anaplectes rubriceps leuconotus. Anaplectes rubriceps jubaensis, seen in Kenya in the North-East in the area of the Somali border is even more striking with the red covering almost the entire body.
