World: Nearctic and Palearctic, wintering S as far as the Equator. Kenya: Frequents permanent waters, wintering in large numbers on the Rift Valley lakes and in the C and W highlands. Frequently found in shallow waters in mixed flocks with Garganey and Northern Shovellers. Locally common from November through to April. During low rainfall years they congregate in large numbers at Lake Baringo, although they may be absent during exceptionally dry weather. |
