Pelecanus rufescens Other Names
World: South-western Arabia, Madagascar, Seychelles and Africa from Senegal and Gambia East to Ethiopia and then South to northern and eastern South Africa. Kenya: Lake Victoria, along the Rift Valley Lakes, Lake Turkana, the Tana River and the southern coastal strip. More common than the Great White Pelican, the Pink-backed can be found on any body of water that holds enough fish except the open sea. The Pink back is only visible in flight but it's much smaller and duller than the Great White and except during breeding the pouch is usually greyish. |
