World: Africa: From southern ne Tanzania N through e,se Kenya to southern Somalia.

Kenya: Principally a bird of the coastal and SE lowlands. Extends as far N and W as Nairobi NP.

A bird of open grassland in drier areas than the similar Yellow-throated Longclaw. The 2 species are sympatric on the coast, elsewhere they don't overlap. The Pangani Longclaw has buffy vice yellow coloured flanks and the throat is orange-yellow in colour.
