World: East Africa from se Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia south through Kenya, ne Uganda to ne Tanzania

Kenya: A common bird throughout most of northern and eastern Kenya mainly in dry bush

This is a very strikingly coloured bird. Its white head and underparts contrast vividly with its red rump and under tail coverts. Like the most of the rest of the weavers this is a gregarious bird which forages on the ground for insects. When feeding it is often found in groups with starlings.
