World: East Africa,from Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia through Uganda and Kenya to Tanzania.

Kenya: Absent from the south-western corner of the country and the southern end of the coast. Elsewhere common in open woodland or bush. Occurs up to 2000m but is usually found below 3000m.

A fruit eating bird which takes its name from its South African relative whose call sounds like "Go Away". It's common, noisy and usually seen in small groups, often in the grounds of camps or lodges eating fruit and flowers from the trees and shrubs. Male and female are alike except for the bill; black in the male and green in the female.
