World: Africa: The East of the continent from Kenya, south through Tanzania to Zambia, Malawi and northern Mozambique. Kenya: Distribution to W and Central Kenya represents the northern limit of its range. A francolin of dense bush, woodland, forest edges and rocky ground generally above 1000m. Feeds on tubers, seeds, bulbs, insects and insect larvae. Although it can be easily overlooked in dense cover it is numerous and comparatively easy to see at Lake Nakuru National Park (which is where the female pictured above was photographed in 2001). |
