World: Africa: Found in the E and NE from southern Tanzania to the E of Lake Victoria and the northwards through Kenya, NE Uganda, S Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.

Kenya: Found across most of the country except in the driest regions of the N and E. Mostly absent from the coast and absent or scarce in the highlands

This is the common grey flycatcher of dry country. It is usually seen in pairs or small family groups. It perches conspicuously on shrubs and low branches, dropping to the ground to feed. It has a very weak voice and is mostly silent. It is very similar to the Pale Flycatcher but occurs in drier country, has a shorter tail and streaks on its crown.
