World: Africa - Found in 2 distinct areas. In the South of the continent occurs widely S of 15°S. Second population is in the NE; Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia.

Kenya: Mostly W of 38°E in dry sandy regions.

A locally common, solitary lark occasionally found in pairs. Often found singing from bushes, rocks or fence wires. The broad white supercilliary stripe make this a very distinctive lark (even in the rufous morph).
