This is a mainly solitary bird which is found in moister habitats than the closely related Eastern Pale Chanting Goshawk. It is a large, grey hawk with an upright stance which preys on lizards, snakes and small mammals. The cere is coral pink as are the long bare tarsi and the under tail coverts are barred (these are the most obvious distinguishing features from the Eastern Pale Chanting Goshawk which has a yellow cere and plain white under tail coverts).
