World: Endemic to Africa. East Africa from Ethiopia and Somalia South through Kenya to Tanzania and southern Africa in south-western Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. Kenya: Found only in southern Kenya. Uncommon on dry flats and short grass plains up to 1800m. Active by day but may be nocturnal where temperatures are very high. Although not common in Kenya it can usually be found on the salt flats in Amboseli National Park. Looks similar to Heuglin's Courser but Heuglin's has a brownish stripe on the neck. |
