World: Found in the northern areas of East Africa; from western Somalia, Ethiopia and the extreme south-east of Sudan to north-eastern Uganda and northern Kenya

Kenya: Locally common in the dry northern areas of Kenya but entirely absent south of Baringo

One of the chestnut-winged starlings, the Bristle-crowned Starling is distinguished from the others by its very long tail and the cushion of velvety black forehead feathers. This is a particularly common Starling around the Shaba GR. It is generally associated with cliffs and gorges, often near water and can be found in reasonable numbers to the south of its range around Lake Baringo
