World: Widely distributed s of 15°N except in the drier areas of Somalia and the SW

Kenya: A fairly widespread bird in the southern half of Kenya, although absent from most of the northern half except around Lake Victoria

A shy bird which, although common, can be difficult to see. Most often found on the Rift Valley Lakes where it is usually seen in pairs. This bird was photographed at Ziwani, south of Tsavo National Park
