Other Names

English Zanzibar Bishop   French Euplecte de Zanzibar   German Brandweber         Italian Vescovo di Zanzibar

World: Africa: Known from SE Kenya, and the eastern regions of Tanzania and Mozambique.

Kenya: Coastal lowlands and the SE corner of the country

A distinctive East African Red Bishop as it is the only one which is black from throat to belly. Away from the Kenyan Coast some individuals do show some red throat feathering. The individual pictured above was either just coming into full breeding plumage or just going out (hence the buffy feathering mixed in with the black).
